Pulu Pulu is one of the higher coffee growing areas in Tana Toraja (1700 to 2000 meters above sea level) and home to many older Sulawesi coffee farms. Often, farmers from Pulu Pulu bring their coffee down to the local markets of Sapan and Minaga and sell to collectors from the bigger mills. This lot is from a smaller coffee collector who lives in Pulu Pulu village. While he may not be a local himself, he married one, and has deep ties to the coffee farmers in this small coffee growing region. A lot of the coffee trees are older Typica and Timor hybrid types, many of the farms in need of renovation, some already underway with new plantings. Farmers depulp their own coffee and then sell to the collector as wet parchment. He then lays the coffee to dry at his small warehouse, and then it is dry milled at a larger milling facility in Bandung. Altitude plays an important role in coffee density, which affects resilience in the roaster, as well as the bright acidity that comes through in Pulu Pulu's cup.
