Kenya has a reputation for brightness. High altitude, clean processing, that electric grapefruit acidity that wakes you up mid-sip. We love that about Kenyan coffees.

This one surprised us.

Kaliluni AA comes from a single cooperative in Machakos County, Eastern Kenya.  Farmers deliver fresh-picked cherry the same day it's harvested. It's sorted, pulped, fermented for just 16 to 18 hours, washed clean, dried on raised beds, and graded again before export. Every step is deliberate. AA is Kenya's top classification — the largest, most carefully selected beans from the lot.

What landed in the cup wasn't what we expected. Instead of the sometimes sharp, overly acidic notes Kenya is known for, Kaliluni gives you something deeper. Candied apricot. White peach. A bright berry sweetness that lingers. Incredibly clean from start to finish.

Origin: Machakos County, Eastern Kenya
Farm: Kaliluni Factory
Elevation: 1700 to 1900 meters
Varietals: SL-28, SL-34, Batian, Ruiru 11
Processing: Fully Washed

The Kaliluni Factory handles one thing: coffee from the Kaliluni Farmer Cooperative. No outside cherry. No mixed sources. Every lot that leaves Kaliluni is traceable to that single co-op in Machakos County, Eastern Kenya, grown between 1,700 and 1,900 meters.

Farmers deliver fresh-picked cherry the same day it's harvested. At the factory it's sorted by hand, pulped, and fermented for just 16 to 18 hours — enough time to remove the mucilage cleanly, not so long that it affects the cup. Then washed, dried on raised beds, and graded again before export.

Workers rake the drying parchment regularly. They cover it during the hottest part of the day to slow the drying down, and again at night to protect it from moisture. It takes up to two weeks. That patience is what AA grade tastes like.
AA is Kenya's top classification — the largest beans, the strictest sorting, the best of the lot. Not everything makes it through. This did.
